Matter Management Systems Must Be Scalable

In a white paper that discusses conversion methods for moving data from existing sources into a legal case and matter management system, Matt Ryan says the process can be compared to finding a new office. An office is where staff, furniture and equipment reside; a case management system is where file and client-related information such as contacts, calendars, documents and research reside. Converting data to a new system isn’t something that should be undertaken lightly or repeated often. A carefully conceived plan, and a team of experts to execute it is required. Scalability is one of the most important issues to consider. It is measured by the ease in which the system can handle increased capacity (more matters, more users, departments, documents, etc.). Organizations that adopt a system that can’t scale up to save on expense often pay more in the long run.
