More Mass-Tort Cases Undermined By Plaintiff-Lawyer Corruption

Recent rulings show that some plaintiff lawyers are looking to coercion and fraud to replicate David versus Goliath mass-tort lawsuit wins against corporations, like those over tobacco and asbestos in the 1990s. A New York federal judge’s overturned a $19 billion judgment against Chevron secured through fraud and blackmail, a California appellate court affirmed that fraudulent testimony and coached witnesses invalidated a pesticide case against Dole Food. Meanwhile, in an ongoing case, a class action injury lawyer is suspected of faking thousands of claims against BP for the Gulf of Mexico oil spill.
