Macy’s Enters Corporate Criminal Plea, $950K Fine In Employee Death

Macy’s has agreed to pay a $950,000 fine and pleaded no contest to a misdemeanor count of corporate criminal liability in the 2009 death of a worker at a Los Angeles distribution center. The worker was operating a cardboard baling and compactor machine when he fell into it and was crushed and decapitated. Macy’s will also conduct an audit of balers and compactors at its California stores and distribution centers.
