Five in-house counse who serve as the only legal voice for their company share their greatest challenges with Above The Law. In a one-lawyer outfit, counsel may spend much of their time in roles that are not strictly legal, such as employment/HR, insurance, compliance and risk. The lawyers identified time management, working with executives, and staying ahead of a wicked learning curve as especially difficult challenges. But the variety, flexibility and sense of being a big fish in a little pond makes the job satisfying for many.
