Who Is Liable For Hacking In The Cloud?

The recent instance of hackers obtaining photos that some celebrities had stored in the cloud raises a new legal question corporations and law firms must consider: When the cloud is hacked and sensitive data released, who is liable? Neal Ungerleider in Fast Company writes that Apple, the multinational corporation whose iCloud hosted many of the stolen pictures, is largely protected from liability, although it is more vulnerable in Europe, where courts have enforced stricter Internet privacy laws.
