Lawyers May Be Death Knell Of NFL

The New York Times magazine looks at the lawyers who have brought to light the dangers from repeated head injuries to former National Football League players. Jason Luckasevic, a Pittsburgh lawyer, was the first to file against the NFL, on behalf of 75 players suffering depression and memory loss. He first became aware of the issue through a friend of his, a physician who had performed autopsies on a number of deceased professional football players and found consistent evidence of extraordinary brain damage. The NFL hadn’t warned players what the health effects would be, Luckasevic argued. A settlement is expected soon, and numerous similar cases have been filed.
