Lawyer Indicted For False Gulf Spill Claims

A lawyer who allegedly filed thousands of false claims on behalf of Vietnamese fisherman seeking damages after the BP oil spill in the Gulf of Mexico has been indicted by a Mississippi federal grand jury. Texas lawyer Mikal Watts has said he represented more than 42,000 spill-damage victims, many of whom did not speak English. He has denied wrongdoing and accused the government of taking the side of BP, which filed a lawsuit against him two years ago claiming he filed on behalf of individuals who were dead or did not hire him.
