Lawyer Arrested For Threatening Rape Victim With Deportation

Two men, including a defense attorney, have been arraigned after allegedly trying to bribe a rape victim into not testifying, and then hinting that the Trump administration would have her deported. Attorney Christos Vasiliades offered the alleged victim’s husband $3,000 cash if she did not show up to court, according to the indictment. “You know how things are with Trump’s laws now; someone goes to court and, boom, they get taken away,” the other man, Edgar Ivan Rodriguez, said in a recorded conversation. Vasiliades and Rodriguez have pleaded not guilty. “If you’re an immigrant, you live in a climate of fear at this point, and these folks were trying to capitalize on that,” Attorney General Brian Frosh told the Baltimore Sun.
