Lawsuit Claims FBI Stiffs FOIA Requests

MIT Tech security researcher Ryan Shapiro claims the FBI routinely runs Freedom of Information requests through an ancient search system, knowing the searches will fail to produce any results. His lawsuit is currently before U.S. District Court for the DC District. Shapiro says he has filed thousands of information requests relating to the agency’s activities. “The FBI will do anything in their power to maintain functional immunity from FOIA requests,” he says. The FBI claims its system was upgraded in 2012.
