Law And “The Internet Of Things”

Before long the “The Internet of Things” will reach every corner of modern life, including the practice of law, notably litigation, as well as the management of firms and legal departments. It’s happening already – consider keyless security to control who is allowed in the firm’s office, and automated lights and heat to keep energy costs down – and will only get more widespread and efficient. On the litigation front, the vast amounts of data that people are collecting and generating about themselves will open up new e-discovery challenges and new ways to  build a case. Tom Mighell, senior consultant with Contoural Inc., looks at some possibilities and suggests that getting ahead of the curve and paying attention to this wave of smart devices could pay major dividends down the road.
