Ky Derby Winning Trainer Sued By Angry Bettors

Medina Spirit, winner of the Kentucky Derby, tested positive for a small amount of a banned substance after the race. Medina Spirit was cleared to run in the Preakness, and it seems unlikely that it will be retroactively disqualified from its Derby win, but trainer Bob Baffert has been hit with a class-action lawsuit by several gamblers who claim they had win bets on the horse that finished in 2nd place, Mandaloun, which went off at 26 to 1 odds, and if not for Baffert’s drugged horse, they would have won a fortune. One plaintiff says he bet $2000,and would have had a minimum potential payoff of $40,000. Plaintiffs attorneys are actively looking for more angry bettors to join the suit. The bettors are suing for an undisclosed amount, but apparently they want the amount of money they would have won plus punitive damages.
