Justice Dept. Rakes In Record $24.7B In Penalties

In fiscal year 2014 , the Justice Department has collected $24.7 billion in penalties from fraud and other cases, a record for the agency. In 2013, DOJ collected $8 billion, and in 2013, $13 billion.The multi-billion fines against JPMorgan Chase & Co, UBS AG, the Royal Bank of Scotland and Citigroup have boosted the agency’s collections. “It shows the fruits of the Justice Department’s tireless work in enforcing federal laws … and in holding financial institutions accountable for their roles in causing the 2008 financial crisis,” Attorney General Eric Holder said in a statement.
