Judges Not Using Social Media ‘Political Malpractice,’ Says Texas Justice

Judges subject to election who do not seek to engage voters and citizens via social media are engaging in “political malpractice,” writes Texas Supreme Court justice Don Willett (dubbed the Tweeter Laureate of Texas) in The Washington Times. But be intelligent, he says. “No discussing cases that could appear before me, and no partisan sharp elbows.” And keep in mind that “succinctness is the enemy of nuance.” Being available and communicative in new, modern ways buoys public confidence, Willett argues. “Citizens must have utmost confidence in their judiciary and not see judges as robed, ideological crusaders seeking to gratify a personal agenda.”
