Judge Throws Out Charges In Kesha’s Lawsuit Against Music Producer

A New York judge dismissed parts of pop singer Kesha’s lawsuit against her music producer, Dr. Luke, and denied her an emergency order to let her out of her recording contract with Sony Music Entertainment. Kesha has sued Dr. Luke and accused him of drugging, raping, and emotionally abusing her while they worked together. The alleged abuse occurred outside of New York, and outside the statute of limitations, the judge ruled. In a controversial ruling, New York State Supreme Court Justice Shirley Werner Kornreich said, “Her claims of insults about her value as an artist, her looks and her weight are insufficient to constitute extreme, outrageous conduct intolerable in a civilized society. Every rape is not a gender-motivated hate crime.” Werner Kornreich also said she felt Kesha was being unreasonable in not agreeing to an offer from Sony to work with another producer.
