Judge Admonishes Law Firm For Egregious Fee Request

A $126,000 fee requested by Mayer Brown in a case that helped two tenants recover a $6,400 security deposit was struck down by a Manhattan judge, who admonished the firm for spending “a grossly unnecessary amount of time” on simple matters, and “unabashedly” invoicing duplicative oversight work from a senior associate and a partner. The judge called the bill “gross overreaching,” and “simply intolerable.”
