Jones Day Lawyer Nominated As Solicitor General

Noel Francisco, head of Jones Day’s government regulations practice, is President Donald Trump’s nominee to serve as U.S. Solicitor General. Francisco has been in the office since January in the principal deputy’s job, and serving as the acting solicitor general. A University of Chicago grad, both undergrad and law school, Francisco clerked for Justice Antonin Scalia, and was part of the legal team that represented President George W. Bush in the 2000 Florida election recount. He served as associate counsel to the president, and from 2003 to 2005 he was deputy assistant attorney general in the Office of Legal Counsel. Francisco argued before the Supreme Court as the attorney representing former Virginia Gov. Robert F. McDonnell in his corruption case, and arguing against the Obama administration’s requirement that religious organizations provide contraception services.
