Irish Court Fines Man For Defacing Ex-Girlfriend’s Facebook Page

A man who used his ex-girlfriend’s phone to post a malicious status update on her Facebook profile has been charged under a law meant to punish those who deface physical property. Though the law allows a maximum penalty of 10 years or a $13,600 fine, the judge – noting there was no precedent he could look to – levied a $2,700 fine, saying the post was reprehensible, but fortunately was taken down quickly.
