Survey Pinpoints Hot Spots in International Litigation

A British research group looks at global commercial litigation trends, overall and by region. It finds a kind of delayed reaction from the 2008 financial crisis, with financial, securities and insolvency litigation now proliferating. Meanwhile the energy industry, notably in resource-rich states in the U.S., has become another seat of litigation activity, and so too has intellectual property. Interestingly though, the study finds a high concentration of IP litigation in a particular geographical area that doesn’t include the United States. Overall, the study finds, arbitration has become increasingly popular, especially for fielding international disputes.
