Injunction Lifted, Madonna’s Intimate Items To Be Auctioned

An auction of intimate memorabilia that once belonged to Madonna will be auctioned off in July. A preliminary injunction preventing the auction was lifted after the performer lost her legal battle to regain control of the items, which include a handwritten letter from her former boyfriend, Tupac Shakur. In the letter, written while he was in prison a year before he was shot to death at age 25, Shakur discusses reasons for ending their relationship, which include the image problems created by having a white girl friend. The starting bid for the Shakur letter is $100,000. Also scheduled for auction are intimate photographs, and cassette tapes of unreleased recordings. Many of the items came into possession of Madonna’s art consultant and former friend, when she lost interest in them. The ruling said that a 2004 settlement agreement prevented the performer from suing for the items.
