Ikea Under Investigation For Employee Spying Program In France

The French affiliate of Swedish home décor giant Ikea is being investigated by French courts after revelations that it spent about $653,000 between 2002 and 2012 hiring spies to track its employees there. Private investigators were used to vet job applicants, to build cases against employees accused of wrongdoing, and even in some cases to undermine customers who brought complaints against Ikea. So far, though, there is no evidence to suggest Ikea offices in other countries employed similar tactics.
