Hundreds Of Suits Thrown Out When Plaintiffs Discovered To Be Dead

Hundreds of tobacco lawsuits have been tossed out by a federal appeals court after it was found that a Florida firm mistakenly identified 588 dead smokers as being alive. The 11th U.S. Circuit Court of Appeals tossed out 750 personal injury suits filed on behalf of the smokers. The suits were among the 4,432 claims filed in 2008 by the Wilner Firm in Florida. It was four years later that nearly 600 plaintiffs were found to be deceased.
