House Rules Committee Opens Door For Congress To Sue Obama

After two hours of rancorous debate, the House Rules Committee voted 7-4 along party lines to allow the House to vote on suing the President. House Majority Leader John Boehner (R-Ohio) has pursued the lawsuit, which claims President Barack Obama made unilateral changes to the Affordable Care Act after the law was passed. Rep. Jim McGovern (D-Mass.), said the GOP is acting out of “hatred” for Obama, and called members of the party “cuckoo clocks,” as Republican members shot down a Democratic amendment that would have required the House General Counsel to report weekly on how much is spent on the lawsuit. A vote on whether to pursue the legal action is set to be considered on the floor next week.
