Hiring H-1B Workers, Then Firing U.S. Workers, Draws Investigation

A number of companies are being investigated by both the Department of Labor and the Department of Justice for possible labor and immigration law violations. The scenario involves companies from India that provided H-1B workers to a U.S. company, Southern California Edison, which allegedly then laid off U.S. workers in comparable positions. A similar scenario is reported to have played out at Walt Disney World in Orlando. In both cases, some of the laid off U.S. workers were said to have been required to train their own replacements.
