High Court, Absent Scalia, Revives Class Actions

Lawyers for companies hoping to kill class actions for good were optimistic when the Supreme Court’s term began last October, but since the death of conservative Justice Antonin Scalia things haven’t gone so well for them. The remaining justices ruled against businesses in two of the three class action cases they considered, with the only case won by a corporate defendant coming in a narrow decision. Reuters reports that they are rethinking longstanding legal strategies.
