Heralded M&A Lawyer Stephen R. Hertz Dies

Stephen R. Hertz, a top mergers and acquisitions lawyer, died on Friday in Manhattan at the age of 55, the New York Times reports. In an apparent suicide, Hertz jumped from his Upper West Side apartment, a police department spokeswoman told the paper. Hertz was a partner at Debevoise & Plimpton, advised clients including Landstar System, a transportation services provider, and Cambrex, a life sciences company, on a range of corporate matters. He also represented private equity firms including Stone Point Capital and HarbourVest Partners.
