Help: I Got A Law Job And I Hate It

“It is literally true that you can do anything with a law degree – as long as you’re comfortable with the fact that you could have done the same thing without a law degree,” Slate associate editor L.V. Anderson tells one new associate whose job has lost its luster. The associate, ‘Anne,’ said she is “incredibly grateful to have found a legal job at all,” but she goes days without client interaction, and her firm has discouraged her from doing pro bono or other charity work. Anderson points the finger of blame for the legal industry’s “misery, boredom, and regret” at the billable hours system. Ultimately, Anderson writes, “the only thing worse than going to grad school for a profession you hate is staying in that profession for years on end out of fear.”
