Harper Lee Settles Trademark Suit Against Hometown Museum

Like much in Harper Lee’s life, details of  her recent settlement with a museum, ending her trademark lawsuit, will remain a secret. The reclusive author of of “To Kill a Mockingbird sued the museum in her home town of Monroeville, Alabama, the town where she grow up,  alleging it took advantage of her ill health and perceived inability to police her brand in order to exploit trademarks associated with her work. Much of the museum’s display concerns the author and items associated with the novel and its film adaptation. The museum rejecting the claims as false and without merit, and noted the museum has been in operation for 25 years and that the author herself has been a visitor.
