Government Does Miserable Cybersecurity Job

According to an analysis of 552 local, state and federal organizations by risk management firm SecurityScorecard, government ranks better than telecommunication and education when it comes to cybersecurity, but worse than transportation, financial services, retail, and just about everything else. This represents a small improvement, since government ranked dead last in the 2016 survey. The US Office of Personnel Management, which suffered a major breach has made some modest strides on defense, but the analysis found that government agencies still struggle with basic issues such as password reuse, and management of devices exposed to the public internet. Exceptions were the Wisconsin Court System and the City of Indianapolis, both of which have top notch cybersecurity systems.
