Google Seeks Sanction For Oracle Attorney

Google prevailed over Oracle in a federal jury trial in May, and now Google has asked that Oracle attorney Annette Hurst be sanctioned for releasing information that should have remained confidential. In open court, Hurst revealed Android revenue and profit figures, as well as the fact that Google paid $1 billion to be the default search bar on Apple iPhones. Google says those facts should have remained confidential, but once a Bloomberg reporter got hold of the transcript, they were headline news. Oracle countered, saying the statements were made in response to questions from the judge, and fall short of the legal requirements for contempt.  “Sanctions … require ‘extreme circumstances’ and a level of bad faith and willfulness that is not present here,” said an Oracle statement.
