Google To Repay Parents For Kids’ Unauthorized App Purchases

Tech giant Google has agreed to repay customers at least $19 million for unauthorized app purchases kids were allowed to make on their parents’ devices. This settlement is the end result of a complaint filed with the FTC in 2011, when Google first introduced in-app charges. Under the agreement, the company must contact customers who make in-app purchases, informing them of an available15-day refund period, and must make requested refunds promptly. Fellow mobile firm Apple reached a $32.5 million settlement with the FTC for similar purchases, and another case was filed against Amazon in July.
