GM Names Mary Barra CEO, First Woman To Head US Car Company

Mary Barra has become the first female to serve as chief executive of a U.S. auto company as General Motors named her CEO, effective Jan. 15, 2014. Barra, currently senior vice president for global product development, first started with GM in 1980 as an electrical engineering co-op student. Current CEO Dan Akerson will retire.
