Global Businesses Shying Away From Cloud Computing In Wake of NSA Revelations

A survey finds that businesses world-wide are increasingly turning away from cloud computing and looking to more secure data storage, in the wake of the massive data breaches exposed by NSA leaker Edward Snowden. There is speculation that international firms looking to route data locally, rather than go through the U.S., could have a major impact on American firms and the future of the Internet. The survey, conducted by NTT Communications with respondents from more than 1,000 companies, found that almost 90 percent of responding firms had changed the way they use cloud-based data storage. The results may increase pressure on President Barack Obama and U.S. lawmakers to reign in government surveillance programs, or risk undercutting the role of major American firms like Facebook and Google in the online economy.
