Getting Full Value From Hotline Reports

Hotlines can be more effective than fraud examiners when it comes to ferreting out misconduct – and that contention comes from none other than the fraud examiners themselves. A study from a trade group, The Association of Certified Fraud Examiners, finds that most fraud is identified and resolved by way of a tip reported through a company hotline, and that hotline reports “often notify organizations about serious problems long before they come to light through other organizational controls.” This post, from a publication of The Society of Corporate Compliance and Ethics, includes recommendations on how to maintain a hotline for maximum effectiveness by attending to four key steps: “monitor, address, filter, and respond.”
