German Court Finds U.S. Sentence For Hacker Too Extreme

A Turkish man, accused in the U.S. of leading a group that stole almost $60 million by hacking into the networks of credit card payment processing companies, will not be extradited from Germany. A German court ruled that the potential 250 year sentence he faces is too extreme. One of the group’s biggest cyber-attacks led to the theft of $40 million, with 36,000 ATM transactions occurring within 10 hours.
