A general counsel may be asked to spearhead a company’s efforts in connection with a headquarters lease. When this happens, most GCs will be coming to the project with little or no experience. Eric Allon, in this Today’s General Counsel article, warns there are numerous traps for the unwary in this endeavor, and he lays out some of the key issues to be aware of. First among them is timing. To maintain a strong bargaining position, begin planning for the move and considering your options a long time – years, if possible  – before you intend to carry through with it.
