Garrity Named Manhattan Bankruptcy Judge, Again

For the second time, James Garrity will serve as a judge for the Southern District of New Yorkbankruptcy court in Manhattan, replacing retiring U.S. Bankruptcy Judge Allan Gropper. Garrity, a former federal prosecutor, previously sat as bankruptcy judge from 1991 to 1999, and in the interim was a partner at Morgan Lewis & Bockius. Bankruptcy judges, who serve 14-year terms, are non-political appointees; Garrity was appointed by the Court of Appeals for the Second Circuit, which oversees bankruptcy judge appointments in the Southern District of New York.
