French Gov’t To Probe Macron Hack

The French government will investigate a hack that targeted President-elect Emmanuel Macron during the campaign, according to the Associated Press. A source told the news agency that cybersecurity agency ANSSI, which may only be called in when the cyberattack is “massive and sophisticated,” will be brought in to study the hack. Last weekend, Macron won the French presidential election handily. Just days before the vote, and hours before the country’s ban on election-related reporting kicked in, Macron’s campaign confirmed they had been the subject of a massive hack. But, the New York Times reports, the leaked documents landed at the 11th hour, too late for journalists to analyze and report on them, and were hardly discussed even after the election coverage ban was lifted this week. “[N]ews of the hacking operation in France was met with silence, disdain and scorn,” the Times wrote.
