France Bans After-Work Emails For One Million Managers

A million workers in France will have to put down their Blackberrys and pick up a glass of Bordeaux, as mandated by a new agreement between an employer  federation and unions in the country. Under the terms of the agreement, “cadres,” or managers, in the digital and consultancy business  aren’t allowed to engage their work email outside the hours of 9 a.m. to 6 p.m., except for “exceptional circumstances.” The measure is a bid to ensure French workers get 11 consecutive hours of “rest” a day.
