Former HUD Acting GC Damon Y. Smith Joins Jenner & Block

Jenner & Block has added Damon Y. Smith, former acting general counsel for the U.S. Department of Housing and Urban Development (HUD), as a partner in the firm’s Washington, D.C. office. Smith will be a member of the Government Controversies and Public Policy Litigation and Real Estate Practices. Smith worked five years at HUD and served as the department’s acting general counsel from January 2014 to July 2014. Smith held several positions at HUD between June 2009 and January 2014, serving as HUD’s principal deputy general counsel, acting associate general counsel for insured housing and senior counsel/special assistant to the general counsel. Before HUD, he was a professor of property and local government law at Rutgers University. Before his teaching career, he was an associate in the Washington, D.C. office of Arnold & Porter LLP, an international law firm.
