Former Hockey Players Sue NHL For Ignoring Concussion Risks

On the heels of a $765 million NFL settlement with former football players accusing the league of covering up dangers it knew concussions posed to athletes, former hockey players have made similar claims in a suit filed against the National Hockey League. Ten plaintiffs claim that the NHL ignored the dangers of concussions, wouldn’t address brain injury issues, refused to change the rules of the game to protect players, and encouraged body checking and fighting. The lawsuit, with the D.C. District Court, seeks medical monitoring along with unspecified damages on behalf of all league players.
