The best solution is to have a through intake process that red-flags problem clients in the first place. But if you find you need to bail out, attorney Mark Wilson recommends doing so early and tactfully. One technique is to refer the client to another lawyer, possibly one with more expertise in their field of need. Be aware that later in the process, you will need to get court permission, and at that point having kept good records can be invaluable.
