Fewer EEOC Charges In 2014, But Retaliation Claims Are Up

The EEOC has released its annual statistical summary of charges filed. The total number of charges filed is down from 2013, and substantially down from the annual total for the years 2008 to 2012, a trend that a Squire Patton Boggs post suggests can be attributed to improving economic conditions and lower unemployment. The total number of charges filed in 2014 was 88,178. Running counter to the general trend, however, are the statistics for retaliation claims. They have been generally increasing.
