Feds Fiercely Pursuing Insider Trading

Despite notable recent setbacks, federal prosecutors in Manhattan are pursuing insider trading cases at a rate not seen since 2012. That was the year a major appellate ruling impinged prosecutors’ ability to bring charges against hedge fund managers and other traders, but in this year alone charges have been brought against 11 alleged inside traders. The move is headed by U.S. Attorney Preet Bharara, who is known for high-profile prosecutions of Wall Street bigwigs. Since taking office in 2009, Bharara has brought charges against 107 people, an average of about 14 defendants a year.
