Fed Pick Was Reprimanded For Failure to Pay Child Support

In an article written in 2014, Stephen Moore, President Trump’s pick for a seat on the Federal Reserve Board, wrote that “intact families” are important for the economy and criticized “those who cheer divorce as a form of women’s liberation”. He advocated a “personal and national commitment to sturdy families” as part of a “culture of virtue” aimed at saving the American economy from a path of decline, but court records obtained by The Guardian show that he was held in contempt for failing to pay ex-wife over $300,000 in alimony, child support, and other debts owed under their divorce settlement. After he continued ignoring the debts the judge order the sale of his house to satisfy the debt, but that was halted after he paid about two-thirds of what he owed. According to the IRS he owes about $75,000 in overdue taxes. He disputes the figure and blames confusion over tax deductions relating to his child support and alimony payments.
