Employees Sue Health Care Company Over Cyber-Breach

Florida-based Lincare, which provides respiratory therapy equipment for in-home use, is being sued by former employees who claim the company failed to implement “the most basic security safeguards,” leading to a breach of their personal data.  Lincare operates more than 1,000 locations across the country with more than 14,000 employees. It has previously been fined for violating HIPPA. The breach, which did not involve health information, occurred when a human resources employee was scammed by a phishing email. The lawsuit, filed in the Middle District of Florida, alleges the company didn’t do enough to protect employee information or train employees to recognize targeted email scams.
