Employee Error Causes Most Data Breaches

Mistakes by employees was the leading cause of corporate data breaches, according to a new Association of Corporate Counsel survey. The survey polled more than 1,000 in-house lawyers in 30 countries, and found that 30 percent of breaches could be chalked up to a worker snafu, such as sending an email with sensitive information to someone outside the company, or opening phishing emails sent from third parties. Lawyers in the healthcare industry reported the highest number of breaches, followed by insurance, manufacturing, and retail.
