‘El Chapo’ Judge Shot And Killed

A judge who presided over appeals from notorious drug kingpins, including Joaquin “El Chapo” Guzman of the Sinaloa Cartel, was shot in the head outside his home this week. Since March, Judge Vicente Bermudez had overseen legal challenges and federal trials in the state of Mexico, just outside the capital near Altiplano, the country’s maximum security prison. He had handled several legal challenges from El Chapo’s lawyers, as well as from Miguel Trevino, ex-leader of the Zetas cartel. Mexico’s President Enrique Pena Nieto said he’d ordered his attorney general to investigate the murder.
