Easy Inexpensive Ways to Fight Cyber Attacks

March 26, 2019

Cybercrime is evolving fast but there are easy, cost-effective and proven ways to prevent attacks, or at least mitigate the damage they cause. Two factor authentication (2FA) is one of the easiest. It means a user must provide a name and login, with an additional code using a device that only they have. In order for a breach to occur both their login and their device would have to be compromised. Encryption is vital if your business makes use of a public network. It shields information sent through your intranet and keeps it from digital theft. Educate staff on suspicious messages that use legit-looking accounts to trick users into revealing login information, and provide training on cybersecurity trends, threats, and good practices. Successful hackers gain important information from easy intrusions. Once part of a network is penetrated they’ve gained access to all of it. Make your network diverse, meaning staff can’t access things a manager could and keep sections of a business separated by VPN. Then, if one area is affected it’s contained. Any software your company uses should be the latest version. Old apps are susceptible to zero-day exploits and attacks. Routinely check all major software and perform vulnerability patch management tasks on a regular basis.
