Diversity In The Legal Profession

Audrey Boone Tillman, executive VP and general counsel for Aflac Inc., looks at why it’s in the interest of the legal profession to address the issue of diversity, and how to do it. Diversity “keeps us sharp,” she writes in a Today’s General Counsel article. While some company legal departments may think they are taking a risk in pursuing diversity, evidence suggests, particularly in industries where innovation is crucial, the opposite is true. Diversity, she writes, is “the font from which innovation organically flows.” To effectively address the issue, she suggests initiatives in three areas: scholarships, recruitment and role models.
