Disgraced Former Governor Appeals Corruption Conviction

Former Governor of Virginia Bob McDonnell is appealing his public corruption convictionand two-year prison sentence, imposed after a jury trial that ended in September of last year. McDonnell was convicted of accepting hundreds of thousands in gifts and other items from a Virginia businessman in exchange for promoting his business interests. The defense claims jurors were not weeded out based on potential media bias, and that the definition of “official acts” is so broad it covers nearly all conduct of any public official.
